After Indore, contaminated water wreaks havoc in Mhow: 25 fall ill, including 19 children

After contaminated water in Bhagirathpura area of Indore city caused people to fall sick, a similar situation has now emerged in Mhow area, where around 25 people, including 19 children, were down with serious diseases such as jaundice and typhoid in the past 10 to 15 days.
Local residents allege that dirty, foul-smelling and muddy water is being supplied through household taps in the area. Even after boiling, residue settles at the bottom of vessels, indicating severe contamination. Due to the worsening situation, some children had to be admitted to hospital.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rakesh Parmar and Tehsildar Vivek Soni visited the spot after the incident came to light. To assess the situation, officials collected water from a house and tested it. Meanwhile, under the guidance of BMO Dr Yogesh Singh, a health department team has started door-to-door visits to collect samples from affected residents.
Locals allege that since the Narmada water pipeline passes through drainage lines, sewage is getting mixed with drinking water. The foul smell and turbidity of the water clearly point towards contamination. However, preliminary checks by the administration have so far not found any leakage.
Later in the night, MLA Usha Thakur also visited the affected area, interacted with residents, and took stock of the situation. She advised people to boil drinking water and instructed officials to immediately reroute the drinking water pipeline if it is passing through sewer lines.
