After three months of the successful launch of India’s first solar mission to space, the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), S Somanath, informed about the mission.
Aditya L1 spacecraft, India’s first space-based mission to study the Sun, is nearing its final phase, and manoeuvres to enter the L1 point are expected to be completed by the first week of Jan 2024, said Somanath.
“I think it has reached almost its final phase. The preparations for the spacecraft’s entry into the L1 point are currently underway incrementally. Possibly by Jan 7, the final manoeuvre will be done for entering the L1 point,” said the ISRO chairman, as per reports.
He was speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony held at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) on Nov 25. ISRO commemorated the 60th anniversary of its maiden foray into space with the launch of the Nike-Apache-sounding rocket from the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station on Nov 21, 1963.
Aditya L1 was successfully launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, on Sept 2 this year.
As the year is about to end, the space agency updated the whereabouts of India’s first solar mission.
The spacecraft, after travelling about 1.5 million km from the earth over 125 days, is expected to be placed in a halo orbit around Lagrangian point L1, which is the closest point to the sun.
