Accident on Badrinath highway in Uttarakhand leaves eight dead, seven injured

A horrific accident took place today on the Badrinath highway in Uttarakhand, where a minibus carrying pilgrims plunged into the Alaknanda River.
More than eight people have been killed and seven have been left injured in the accident. According to reports, the accident occurred near Raintoli village in Rudraprayag.
Rescue operations are underway at the scene after the police were informed about the incident. Efforts are being made to trace the missing people.
There were about 17 passengers on the minibus.
According to reports, the driver of the ‘Traveller’ minibus carrying pilgrims suddenly lost control, causing it to plunge into the Alaknanda River.
A rescue team was immediately dispatched to the spot upon receiving information about the incident. Rescue operations are underway at the site. The strong current of the river is posing a challenge to the rescue work.
The Superintendent of Police (SP), Dr Vishakha Ashok Bhadane, has confirmed the accident. Upon learning about the incident, an SDRF team also rushed to the spot.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also expressed grief over the accident.
Taking to X, he wrote, “Received the extremely sad news of a traveller accident in Rudraprayag district. Local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations. The injured have been sent to the nearest medical center for treatment. The District Magistrate has been ordered to investigate the incident. I pray to God to grant the souls of the departed a place in His feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this immense pain. I pray to ‘Baba Kedar’ for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
