DUSU Election 2026: ABVP’s Yash Dabas Wins President Post, Riya Chhawdi Takes Secretary

Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election results for 2026 were declared on Saturday, with ABVP’s Yash Dabas winning the president’s post, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen was elected vice-president.

ABVP also secured the secretary and joint secretary posts, with Riya Chhawdi and Lakshya Raj Singh emerging victorious respectively.

Yash Dabas Defeats NSUI Candidate

Dabas defeated NSUI’s Vijay Meena in the presidential contest after a close counting process in which the lead changed hands across several rounds.

After 20 rounds of counting, Dabas polled 24,576 votes against Meena’s 22,523, winning by a margin of 2,053 votes.

Independent Candidate Wins Vice-President Post

Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president election by a substantial margin. He secured 30,615 votes, defeating ABVP’s Ishu Maurya, who received 16,910 votes. NSUI’s Virr Chatrath polled 4,313 votes.

Shokeen’s winning margin was 13,705 votes.

ABVP Secures Secretary And Joint Secretary Posts

ABVP’s Riya Chhawdi won the secretary post with 21,650 votes, defeating NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary, who secured 14,869 votes. Chhawdi won by 6,781 votes.

In the joint secretary contest, ABVP’s Lakshya Raj Singh secured 16,641 votes. Independent candidate Vishesh Yadav received 15,778 votes, while NSUI’s Gopal Choudhary polled 15,106 votes. Singh’s margin was 863 votes.

40.46% Voter Turnout

The 2026 DUSU election recorded an overall voter turnout of 40.46 per cent across 52 polling centres. More than 1.51 lakh students were eligible to vote.

Voting for day-college students was held from 8.30 am to 1 pm on Friday, while evening-college students voted from 3 pm to 7.30 pm.

Four Central Posts Contested

The election was held for four central posts — president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary — with 20 candidates in the fray.

ABVP and NSUI fielded candidates for all four posts, while AISA and SFI contested the election together. Independent candidates also emerged as significant contenders.

Counting began at 8 am on Saturday at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus.

Security Concerns During Election

The election was conducted amid heightened security following concerns over violence and alleged hooliganism during campaigning.

The Delhi High Court had barred victory processions, drums and other celebratory displays following the results and sought responses from political organisations on issues related to campaigning and alleged violations.

With the results declared, the newly elected DUSU central panel will take charge for the 2026-27 academic session.
