Aadhaar update: Free changes for kids, faster GST registration from Nov 1

Major policy changes have come into effect from November 1 across banking, taxation and Aadhaar services.
Aadhaar biometrics update free for children
UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has waived the ₹125 fee charged for biometric updates on children’s Aadhaar cards. The waiver will remain in force for one year.
For adults, demographic updates (name, DOB, address, mobile) will continue to cost ₹75 and biometric updates will cost ₹125.
GST registration in 3 days
The GST system now mandates that applicants must receive GST registration within three working days of applying without any human intervention for low-risk category applicants.
On Day 1 of the new system in Ahmedabad, a GST number was issued in under 45 minutes. Aadhaar authentication is now mandatory for claiming input tax credit.
Up to 4 nominees allowed in bank accounts
From November 1, bank account, locker or safe custody holders can appoint up to four nominees in a single account.
The step aims to ensure easier access to funds for families in emergencies and avoid ownership disputes. The nominee addition/change process has been simplified.
SBI card users to face new charges
SBI Card users will have to pay a 1% fee on education-related payments made via third-party apps like CRED or MobiKwik starting November 1.
Loading more than ₹1,000 into a digital wallet using an SBI card will also attract a 1% fee.
