A guest has been banned for life from Taj Agra after allegedly slapping a waiter over a service-related misunderstanding linked to a communication gap. Paritosh Ladhani, Joint Managing Director of SLMG Beverages Pvt Ltd and Sincere Developers, which manages the property, announced the decision in a LinkedIn post, saying no customer had the right to physically abuse a member of his team.
The waiter, identified as Kanti, was serving a guest at the hotel's restaurant when a misunderstanding reportedly arose. According to Ladhani, Kanti's limited proficiency in English contributed to the communication gap, after which the guest allegedly slapped him.
Ladhani said he was furious when he learnt about the incident and decided to blacklist the guest from the property the following day.
Waiter Feared Losing His Dream Job
What upset Ladhani further was that Kanti had not reported the alleged assault himself. When asked why he had stayed silent, the waiter explained that he came from a poor farming family in a village near Agra and regarded his job at the hotel as his dream.
“I didn’t want to do anything that could risk/ruin it!” Kanti told Ladhani, according to the latter's account.
The waiter's response highlighted the fear that speaking up against mistreatment could put his livelihood at risk. Despite allegedly being assaulted at work, Kanti had chosen not to report the incident because he was worried about jeopardising the job he had worked hard to secure.
Ladhani said the guest remained blacklisted after the decision was taken.

'No One Has the Right to Disrespect My Team'
In his LinkedIn post, Ladhani made it clear that a guest's spending power or influence would not excuse mistreatment of hotel employees.
“ABSOLUTELY NO ONE has the right to disrespect someone from my team. Let alone physically abuse them!!” he wrote.
He also stressed that employers must stand up for staff members who feel too vulnerable to defend themselves, particularly when their jobs and financial security are at stake.
“If our employees are afraid to stand up for their dignity, it's OUR responsibility to stand up for them!” Ladhani added.
LinkedIn Post Receives Strong Support
The post received more than 5,600 reactions, with several users supporting the hotel's decision to impose a lifetime ban on the guest.
Some users urged Ladhani to pursue a formal assault complaint in addition to blacklisting the guest, while others questioned why the individual had not been publicly identified.
The incident has drawn attention to the treatment of hospitality workers and the responsibility of employers to protect their staff from alleged abuse, regardless of a customer's status or spending power.
