9 Punjabis deported from Aus arrive in India

At least nine people from Punjab who were deported from Australia have reportedly arrived at Delhi international airport on Thursday. A team of Punjab Police and government officials was present at the airport to receive them and assist in further arrangements.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had earlier said that around 15 Indians were being deported from Australia, out of which most were from Punjab, while others were from Telangana and Uttarakhand. He also mentioned that many of the deported individuals had criminal cases registered against them in Australia. However, he added that they would still be supported and helped in rebuilding their lives.
Officials said that nine deportees from Punjab have reached Delhi so far. Initially, a list of 11 people from the state was expected, but two did not arrive, reportedly due to incomplete documents. The authorities provided food and basic support before handing them over to Punjab Police.
These individuals belong to different districts including Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Moga, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, and Ropar. One of the deportees is said to be a woman. Police officials stated that they are being taken to Patiala first and will later be sent to their respective hometowns.
The incident has also raised concerns about fake travel agents. Mann said that many people are misled by agents who promise them better opportunities abroad but later leave them in difficult situations. He added that the government is working on providing job opportunities so that people do not feel forced to go abroad for work.
