9 Charred To Death As Massive Fire Engulfs Double-Decker Bus In Greater Noida

Nine people, including a woman, were charred to death after a massive fire broke out in a double-decker bus on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida on Thursday, officials said.

The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Jewar police station, triggering panic among passengers. Several passengers reportedly jumped out of the bus windows to escape the flames.

Nine Passengers Trapped Inside

According to officials, more than 30 passengers were travelling on the bus when it suddenly caught fire. Nine passengers, including a woman, were trapped inside and died in the blaze.

After receiving information about the incident, fire brigade personnel and police teams from Jewar police station reached the spot and launched rescue and relief operations.

Several passengers were reportedly rescued after the windows of the bus were broken to help them escape.

Bus Was Travelling To Mahoba

The double-decker bus was travelling from Noida towards Mahoba via the Yamuna Expressway when the fire broke out.

A preliminary report indicated that the bus was carrying a large quantity of luggage, including baggage loaded on its roof. The substantial amount of luggage has also drawn attention as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

Cause Of Fire Yet To Be Determined

The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known. Police and fire department teams remained at the scene and continued rescue and relief operations.

The incident has also raised concerns over safety arrangements and emergency precautions on buses, particularly those operating on long-distance routes.
