Attacks on minorities in Bangladesh have been on the rise, with 88 confirmed incidents of violence targeting minority communities, many of them believed to be Hindus.

This surge in attacks comes after the ousting of the previous prime minister, who has since sought asylum in India and is currently residing in Delhi. Reports indicate that the violence has primarily affected Hindu minorities, raising concerns about the safety of religious communities in the country.

The disclosure of the number of attacks came after India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, expressed concern over the growing violence against minorities.

According to Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary for interim government head Muhammad Yunus, 70 people have been arrested in connection with the communal violence. Alam further revealed that 88 cases related to minority-targeted incidents were registered between August 5 and October 22.

While the interim government has stated that, apart from a few isolated incidents, Hindus have not been specifically targeted for their religion, there have been numerous reports of violence against Hindus, other minorities, and temples, prompting alarm in New Delhi.
