5.8 magnitude earthquake jolts Assam’s Guwahati, tremors felt in north Bengal, Bhutan

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Assam’s Guwahati at 4.41 pm, with tremors felt across North Bengal and neighbouring Bhutan. Officials said the epicentre was located in Udalguri district at a depth of 5 km. So far, no injuries or damage to property have been reported.

According to the National Center for Seismology the 5.8 magnitude jolt was experienced at 4.41 pm on Sunday in Udalguri, Assam (lat: 26.78 N, long: 92.33 E, depth: 5 km).

Former President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee shared a video during the earthquake captioning, “An earthquake struck Guwahati today. Sharing a glimpse from my residence — this flower tub alone is enough to show how powerful the tremors were.”

Former Assam CM also wrote on X, “Major earthquake in Assam. My prayers for everyone's safety and well-being. Urge all to stay alert! #Earthquake”

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Assam to launch a series of major health and infrastructure projects in Darrang district worth over ₹6,300 crore.
