An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale struck Karor in Pakistan today, with tremors felt across Delhi and several parts of North India, according to news reports. The earthquake’s epicenter was located 415 kilometers west of Amritsar, Punjab.

The earthquake, which originated near the Dera Ghazi Khan region in southwestern Punjab at a depth of 10 kilometers, also affected Islamabad and Lahore. The tremors extended to Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and even parts of Afghanistan.

Social media reports captured objects such as ceiling fans and chairs shaking during the brief tremors in Delhi.

Delhi’s location makes it vulnerable to earthquakes as it falls in an active seismic zone due to its proximity to the Himalayas.

More details on this are awaited.
