The Jammu and Kashmir government has reportedly shut down 48 resorts and more than half of popular tourist destinations following security concerns after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that left 28 people dead.

Tourist spots such as Doodhpatri and Verinag have also been declared out of bounds for visitors as a precautionary measure.

The move has triggered uncertainty around Kashmir’s tourism sector, which remains a major source of livelihood for the local population.

As per reports, a significant number of tourists have fled the region since the attack, while many others have cancelled their upcoming travel plans, leaving local businesses struggling.

Locals, still reeling from the massacre, have reportedly staged protests to condemn the attack and express solidarity with the victims.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called for firm action against terrorism, emphasising that the people of Kashmir have openly stood against the killing of innocents and cautioning against any actions that could alienate the local population.
