48 medicines deemed substandard by CDSCO; recalled from market

The Central Drug Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has recently issued a notice to recall 48 medicines due to their substandard quality.

These include many medicines from manufacturers based in Gujarat.

48 out of 1,166 medicines substandard; some for serious illnesses

CDSCO has issued a list of substandard medicines and has directed to recall them, mentioning their batch numbers and expiration dates. There are 48 medicines enlisted, which are expiring as late as 2025.

A test was conducted in the laboratory in August of this year, which included 1,166 samples of different medicines. Out of them, 1,118 have been deemed effective, while 48 are of substandard effectiveness.

Some of these 48 medicines are prescribed for serious illnesses as well.

CDSCO also found 48 substandard medicines out of the tests conducted on 1,497 medicine samples earlier this year.

Trimax expectorant and Cyproheptadine HCL manufactured by Norris Medicines Pvt Ltd in Ankleshwar

Furosemide Injections manufactured by Alves Healthcare Pvt Ltd

Amtas PRP manufactured by Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd

Ofloxacin, Metronidazole Benzoate Suspension manufactured by Proceed Formulations

Ofloxacin Metronidazole Suspension manufactured by Hema Laboratories

Levocetirizine Ambroxol syrup manufactured by Baxil Pharma Pvt Ltd

Tests conducted based on quality

Notably, none of the substandard medicines were deemed fake or spurious, and neither of them was deemed substandard due to any labelling mistake or any lapses in colour combination, MRP printing, expiry date printing, or price printing in English, Hindi, or regional languages.
