295 more Indian immigrants from US could return: Reports
The government announced in Parliament on Friday, that 295 more immigrants currently in US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody may soon return to India.
After the ICE verifies their details, these individuals, detained as part of a crackdown on illegal immigration, will be sent back to India.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has reportedly received confirmation from ICE that the 295 detainees, who were apprehended under the Trump administration’s immigration policies, have received final removal orders approved by the US government.
This time, the MEA has specifically requested religious sensitivity in addition to dietary accommodations for the deportees, as per reports. In previous requests, the focus was solely on providing vegetarian meals, but now, the Indian government has urged US authorities to consider religious needs as well.
The Government of India continues diplomatic efforts to manage the repatriation of deported nationals. While the process has caused distress for many families, officials emphasise that the deportations are part of a broader effort to address illegal immigration. Those who wish to return home will be facilitated by Indian authorities.
As part of the ongoing crackdown, both the US and India are working together to uphold immigration laws.
