22-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Sexually Assaulted By Six Men, Confined At Multiple Locations In Karnataka

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly subjected to repeated sexual assault, threats and wrongful confinement at multiple locations in Karnataka, according to police. A case has been registered against six individuals, including two railway police personnel, at the Yadgir Women Police Station following a written complaint by the survivor.

Woman Approached At Yadgir Railway Station

According to the police report, the woman had travelled from Bengaluru to Yadgir by train after facing domestic issues. While she was sitting in the waiting area at Yadgir railway station during the early hours, Mallu alias Mallappa allegedly approached her, claiming that he had travelled on the same train.

Police said Mallappa gained her confidence by promising marriage and took her to a house near the railway station, claiming it belonged to his relative. He allegedly sexually assaulted her despite her resistance.

Two railway police personnel, identified as Sharanappa and another unidentified official, allegedly arrived at the house, threatened the woman and sexually assaulted her.

Mallappa later allegedly abandoned her at the railway station.

Woman Allegedly Assaulted At Lodge

Another accused, Mahesh, allegedly approached the woman and told her that Mallappa had sent him to take her to a hospital.

Instead, police said, Mahesh took her to a lodge near the new bus stand, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her under threat.

The woman later travelled to Kalaburagi.

Nearly a month later, Mallappa allegedly traced her and again promised marriage. He took her to Shahapur on the pretext of preparing marriage documents and allegedly assaulted her at a lodge.

Three More Men Allegedly Involved

According to the complaint, the woman later returned to Yadgir railway station intending to travel back to Bengaluru.

Three more individuals — Ramesh, Akash alias Pappu and Harsha alias Sudhakar — allegedly intervened. Akash and Harsha took her in a car, while Harsha reportedly got down midway.

Police said Akash allegedly drove the woman to an isolated location, sexually assaulted her and then gave her ₹2,000 to return to Bengaluru.

Woman Allegedly Confined In Kalaburagi

After the woman reached Bengaluru, Akash allegedly contacted her and promised her a job and marriage if she returned to Kalaburagi.

When she arrived, Akash allegedly confined her in a room for two days and repeatedly sexually assaulted her. He later abandoned her at a railway station, allegedly claiming that police were tracking him.

Harsha subsequently contacted the woman, offering her shelter and domestic work.

He allegedly took her to his house in a village in Aland taluk, where he sexually assaulted her. He later allegedly took her to a lodge in Aland on the pretext of arranging an Aadhaar card, where he allegedly assaulted and threatened her again.

Co-Passenger Alerts Police Through 112

The ordeal ended after the woman managed to leave Aland and boarded a bus towards Shahapur.

A co-passenger reportedly noticed that she was crying inconsolably and alerted the police emergency helpline 112.

Emergency response personnel intercepted the bus, rescued the woman and took her to Shakti Sadan, a state-run women’s shelter in Yadgir.

After receiving counselling from shelter officials, she narrated the sequence of events and submitted a formal complaint at the Yadgir Women Police Station.

Six Booked Under BNS Sections

Police have booked the accused under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:

• Section 64(1): Rape
• Section 64(2): Rape by a police officer/person in authority
• Section 70(1): Gang rape
• Section 351(3): Criminal intimidation
• Section 190: Unlawful assembly

The named accused include Mallu alias Mallappa, railway police personnel Sharanappa, another unidentified railway police personnel, Mahesh, Akash alias Pappu and Harsha alias Sudhakar.
