A string of violent incidents erupted in the Narmada district today after a procession organised by Bajrang Dal was met with stone pelting from the local members of a community.
Procession passing through Narmada villages
The right-wing organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) youth-wing Bajrang Dal commenced a ‘Shaurya Jagran Yatra’ today from Narmada district’s Kuida village and was scheduled to culminate at the nearby Selamba village.
However, things took a heated turn when the procession reached Selamba. The yatra was met with stone pelting from the local community, which resulted in communal tensions erupting in the locality.
As tensions developed between the two groups, a shop was reported to have been torched. Alongside, reports of clashes and goods being set ablaze have also emerged.
Police establish law & order
A significant number of police personnel have been deployed as soon as violence broke out.
The police even resorted to shelling tear gas to control law & order.
Reports state that the Narmada local crime branch (LCB) and special operations group (SOG) have been deployed in Selamba, while police officials, including the deputy superintendent of police (DYSP), have reached the spot.
Local leaders, including Dediyapada MLA from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Chaitar Vasava, are reported to have reached the scene to pacify the situation.
