Two, Including Toddler, Killed in Mumbai Building Fire, 6 Injured

Two people, including a 2.5-year-old toddler, were killed and six others injured after a massive fire broke out in a residential building in Mumbai's Vile Parle West late Tuesday night, officials said.

According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the fire call was received at around 10 pm. The blaze was initially classified as a Level-1 fire but was escalated to Level-2 at 10.16 pm.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control at around 1 am after several hours of efforts.

Fire Breaks Out on 11th Floor

DFO R.V. Bhosle said the fire broke out in a residential flat on the 11th floor of an 11-storey building.

Eight fire tenders, along with specialised equipment, were deployed to control the blaze.

According to officials, the fire spread through electrical wiring and an AC unit, besides household items including a sofa, bed and kitchen articles in two flats on the 11th floor.

A firefighter was also injured while battling the blaze.

Two Declared Dead at Hospital

Of the eight injured, six were taken to Nanavati Hospital, while two were shifted to Cooper Hospital.

Cooper Hospital said firefighter Manoj Sonavane and another injured person, Shivam Dwivedi, were treated and discharged.

At Nanavati Hospital, two of the six people brought in were declared brought dead, while four others were reported to be stable.

The deceased were identified as Abir, 2.5, and Ankita, 23.

The injured were identified as Parth, 32, Hiren, 64, Yashasvi and Abhishek, all of whom were reported to be in stable condition.

Cause of Fire Yet to Be Determined

Authorities said the cause of the fire remains unknown. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blaze and how it spread rapidly across the floor.
