Supreme Court dismissed Abu Salem’s plea for release in the 1993 Mumbai case

The Supreme Court of India has dismissed gangster Abu Salem’s plea for release in the 1993 Mumbai serial blast case and asked him to approach the high court for any relief, dealing a major setback to the convict, according to reports. The ruling assures that Salem remains in custody as legal proceedings continue.
The bench also dismissed his request for urgent directions, observing that his conviction under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) and his criminal record did not warrant any special consideration.
The bench reportedly noted that the gravity of the offences and the legal findings against him could not be overlooked while examining his plea.
The court further held that there were no exceptional circumstances requiring immediate intervention. Emphasising that all relevant factors had already been considered by the competent authorities, the bench ruled that Salem’s past convictions and the serious nature of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case weighed against granting him any relief, as per reports.
