Several parts of Maharashtra are likely to witness stormy weather accompanied by rain and thunderstorms between March 17 and March 20, as per IMD.

Authorities warned that a sudden change in weather conditions could result in cloudy skies during the afternoon in many districts, increasing the likelihood of rainfall, lightning and gusty winds.

The weather pattern is expected to affect regions including Vidarbha, Marathwada, Khandesh and parts of central Maharashtra. Officials said overcast skies in these areas may lead to intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms.

Experts also cautioned that lightning strikes and strong winds cannot be ruled out during the period.

Weather activity across the state is likely to intensify from March 18, officials said, adding that the intensity of the system may increase between March 18 and March 20.

Some areas may experience heavier rainfall and isolated hailstorms during this period, they said.

Amid the forecast of adverse weather, the Maharashtra State Agriculture Department on Friday issued an advisory for farmers and citizens.

The department warned that turbulent weather conditions may cause damage to crops and urged farmers to remain vigilant and keep track of updated weather bulletins.

As harvesting of rabi crops is currently underway in many parts of the state, farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect their produce.

The advisory said thunderstorms, lightning strikes and high-velocity winds are likely in several areas, while hailstorms may occur in certain pockets.

It added that the intensity of these weather events is expected to peak between March 18 and March 20.
