Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Sunday deleted a documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani from his social media accounts following a request from the Mumbai Police commissioner, while asserting that his opposition to monopolies would continue.
In a post on X, Thackeray said the documentary had garnered more than 48 lakh views on his account, besides receiving a strong response on Facebook and being widely shared by other users.
“My wish was that this serious issue should reach the people, and that purpose has been achieved,” he said.
He said his objective of bringing the issue before the public had been achieved and that he had removed the post out of respect for the Mumbai Police commissioner.
“The Mumbai and Maharashtra Police are the most efficient police force in the country, and I have always had respect for them in my heart. I'm just honoring the request made by the head of such a Mumbai Police,” Thackeray said in a post on X.
Thackeray Says Fight Against Monopolies Will Continue
Thackeray said he had raised concerns about the relationship between Modi and Adani in January 2026, ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections. He had also delivered a presentation at his Mumbai residence, Shiv TIrth, alleging that the Adani Group was gaining control over India's industrial landscape.
“I have no opposition to any individual, but opposition to monopolies,” he said, adding that he wanted more industrialists to grow, generate employment and create wealth in India rather than economic power being concentrated in the hands of one business group.
“If you're going to pamper just one and that poses a danger to the country, then we oppose that, and it will continue in the future,” Thackeray said.
Thackeray said videos of that presentation remained available on his social media accounts. He also shared material from the earlier presentation again, urging people to watch it.
He maintained that his opposition was not directed at any individual but at monopolistic practices and the concentration of economic power.
Documentary Draws Police Scrutiny
The 36-minute documentary, titled How Adani and Modi Stole India, was produced by Sabir Bhatia and made allegations concerning the relationship between the Prime Minister and the industrialist, including claims of corruption, collusion and preferential treatment. These allegations have not been established by any judicial finding.
The controversy escalated after Mumbai Police issued notices concerning 24 X account holders who had shared the documentary. The police asked the platform to review the posts following a complaint alleging that the content contained objectionable, false and misleading claims that harmed a company's reputation.
Thackeray's decision to remove the post came amid the wider dispute over the circulation of the film. However, he said the move would not affect his campaign against monopolies or his criticism of government policies.
