NMMC deputy commissioner arrested in alleged bribe case

The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Deputy Commissioner Dr Kailas Gaikwad for allegedly taking the bribe of ₹42,000 inside his office at the NMMC headquarters, as per reports.
The ACB officials reportedly received information on April, 20, regarding a class 1 officer attached to the encroachment department who had allegedly demanded bribes to clear a pending of ₹21 lakh related to work carried out in Airoli between November 15, 2024 and February 15, 2025. Following the information, ACG made a trap and caught the red handed Deputy Commissioner while taking a bribe of ₹42,000 on April 21.
The complainant reportedly a subcontractor approached the ACB and allegedly took the name of Gaikwad who sought a two per cent commission to approve the payment . Before taking any action, ACB reportedly verified the information.
After verifying the information, the agency laid a trap by organising a sting operation trap and instructed the complainant with hand over marked currency notes. Following this trap, officers caught red-handed while accepting the money on the third floor of the NMMC headquarters, in CBD- Belapur.
Within the civic setup, corruption related serious concerns are raised by the arrest of Gaikwad. He reportedly has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
