Mumbai’s 125-yr-old Elphinstone Bridge closed for 2 years, find alternative routes here

The Mumbai Metropolitan Development Authority (MMRDA) announced the  demolition of the Elphinstone Bridge and the construction of the new Elphinstone Flyover, along with the Shivdi Worli Elevated Connector Flyover, to improve traffic management. 

The Mumbai Traffic Police on X shared that the path will be closed for two years from April 10 (Thursday), and diversion of traffic as a result.

Here are the diversions and no parking zones

Traffic diversion (west bound)

Traffic going to Dadar West area will take a right turn from Madke Buwa Chowk (Parel TT Junction) and take Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road left turn from Khodadad Circle (Dadar TT Junction) and go to the desired destination via Tilak Bridge. 

Traffic going to Prabhadevi and Worli areas should take Madke Buwa Chowk (Parel TT Junction) directly and via Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road. Straight Krishna Nagar Junction Parel Workshop Supari Bagh Junction Bharat Mata Junction, take a right turn and go through Mahadev Palav Road on Currey Road Railway Bridge, take a right turn from Shingte Master Chowk and go to the desired destination via Lower Parel Bridge. 

Traffic going to Prabhadevi and Worli areas will be diverted from Madke Buwa Chowk (Parel TT Junction) straight to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road-Krishna Nagar Junction Parel Workshop Supari Bagh Junction Bharat Mata Junction Sant Jagnade Chowk, take a right turn and go through Sane Guruji Road, Chinchpokli Railway Bridge, take a right turn from Comrade Gulabrao Ganacharya Chowk (Chinchpokli Junction) and go to the desired destination via NM Joshi Road. 

Traffic going from Sion, Matunga to Prabhadevi and Worli via Elphinstone Bridge will take a right turn from Khodadad Circle (Dadar TT Junction) via Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and proceed to the desired destination via Tilak Bridge. 

Traffic diversion (east bound) 

Traffic going to Parel area via Elphinstone Bridge will proceed straight from Sant Rohidas Chowk (Elphinstone Junction), take a left turn from Wadacha Naka Junction, proceed via Lower Parel Bridge, take a left turn from Shingte Master Chowk, and proceed via Mahadev Palav Road via Currey Road Railway Bridge to Bharat Mata Junction to the desired destination. 

Traffic going to Parel area via Elphinstone Bridge should go straight from Sant Rohidas Chowk (Elphinstone Junction), take a left turn from Wadacha Naka Junction, go via Lower Parel Bridge and then straight from Shingte Master Chowk-NM Joshi Road - From Comrade Gulabrao Ganacharya Chowk (Chinchpokli Junction), take a left turn and proceed via Sane Guruji Road via Chinchpokli Bridge, then take a left turn from Sant Jagnade Chowk and proceed to the desired destination. 

Traffic going to Parel area from Sayani Road and S L Matkar Road via Elphinstone Bridge should take a right turn from Sant Rohidas Chowk (Elphinstone Junction) and proceed to Wadacha Naka Junction, take a left turn to Lower Parel Bridge and proceed to Shingte Master Chowk Take a left turn toward Mahadev Palav Road via Currey Road Railway Bridge and go to the desired destination from Bharat Mata Junction. 

Traffic going to Sion, Matunga from Senapati Bapat Road via Elphinstone bridge should take a left turn from Senapati Bapat Road and take right turn at VS Matkar Road and Bapurao Parulekar Road Bhavani Shankar Road Kabutar Khana take a right turn at Hanuman Mandir Circle NC Kelkar road take a right turn at Kotwal Garden Tilak Bridge Kodadad Circle (Dadar TT Junction) to the desired destination. 

No parking roads 

1. NM Joshi Road - Aurther Road Junction to Dhanmill Junction (both sides) 
2. NM Joshi Road Esic Bhavan to Wadacha Naka Junction (both sides) 
3. Senapati Bapat Road Junction (both sides) St. Rohidas Chauk (Elphinstone Junction) to Rakhangi 
4. Mahadev Palav Road Comrade Krishna Desai Junction (Bharat Mata Junction) to Shingte Master Chowk (both sides) 
5. Sane Guruji Road Sant Jagnade Junction to Comrade Gulabrao Ganachary Junction (Chinchpokli Junction) (both sides). 
6. Bhavani Shankar Road Hanuman Mandir, Kabutarkhana to Gopinath Chavan Chauk (both sides) 
7. Raobahadur SK Bole Road Hanuman Mandir to Portuguese Church (both sides)

Traffic on Mahadev Palav Road 

• One direction will continue on Mahadev Palav Road (Currey Road Railway Bridge) from Comrade Krishna Desai Chowk (Bharat Mata Junction) to Shingte Master Chowk. (7 am to 3 pm) 
• One direction will continue on Mahadev Palav Road (Currey Road Railway Bridge) from Shingte Master Chowk to Comrade Krishna Desai Chowk (Bharat Mata Junction) (3 pm to 11 pm) 
• Mahadev Palav Road (Currey Road Railway Bridge) will remain open on both sides for vehicles (11 pm to 7 am)

Guidelines for pedestrians

Pedestrians will use the pedestrian railway bridge connecting Prabhadevi Railway Station and Parel Railway Station near One International Center to travel east-west in the Parel and Prabhadevi areas.
