Mumbai Police Imposes Restrictions Across City From July 23 to August 6

The Mumbai Police have reportedly imposed strict citywide prohibitory orders from July 23 to August 6, aiming to head off potential disruptions to public safety and maintain law and order across the metropolis.
Issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Akbar Pathan under the Maharashtra Police Act, the preventive measures come after intelligence reports flagged potential threats to peace, property, and human life. The restrictions take effect at 12.01 am on July 23 and will remain active until midnight on August 6 across all jurisdictions under the Mumbai Police Commissionerate.

Key Prohibitions and Guidelines

To prevent unapproved gatherings and mitigate risks, authorities have laid out specific restrictions for the two-week period:

• Gathering Limits: Groupings of five or more people in public spaces are strictly prohibited without prior authorization.
• Processions & Rallies: Public rallies, processions, and demonstrations are barred across the city.
• Noise Controls: The use of loudspeakers, live musical bands, and sound systems in public spaces is restricted.
• Pyrotechnics: Fireworks and firecrackers during any gathering or procession are completely banned.
• Compliance Warning: Violators of these orders face immediate legal action under applicable sections of the law.

Exemptions and Public Cooperation

Authorities clarified that the order is designed to stop unlawful activity rather than halt daily life. Normal routine activities remain unaffected, with specific events and institutions exempted from the restrictions:


• Exempted Events: Weddings, funeral processions, and officially permitted social events can proceed as usual.
• Institutions: Educational institutions, government offices, courts, and essential services will operate without disruption.

Police officials have reportedly urged Mumbaikars to cooperate with on-duty officers throughout the fortnight to help maintain peace across the city.
