Mumbai Police book BJP rally organisers after woman’s viral outburst over traffic jam

The Mumbai Police have booked organisers of a BJP rally in Worli following a viral video showing a woman commuter confronting a state minister and others over severe traffic congestion in the area.

The incident took place on Tuesday during a demonstration march organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party in Worli, which allegedly led to an hour-long traffic jam, disrupting movement across key roads. The rally was held to protest the defeat of a constitutional amendment bill aimed at fast-tracking 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies.

In the viral video, a visibly upset woman was seen confronting Girish Mahajan, Maharashtra minister of water resources, and police officials, expressing anger over the road blockade and inconvenience caused to commuters.

Following the backlash, Mumbai Police registered a case against the rally organisers for causing public disruption.

Reacting to the controversy, Mahajan acknowledged that such rallies can cause inconvenience but defended the protest. “When we take out a march, it is bound to cause inconvenience on the road. People did face difficulty for some time,” he said, adding that he had apologised to the woman and assured her that the roads would be cleared quickly.

However, he also criticised the language used during the confrontation, stating that while anger was understandable, the manner of expression was inappropriate.
