Mumbai police arrested two fruit sellers from the Malad area on charges of applying rat poison to fruits, as per reports. The incident came to light after a local resident recorded the video and filed a complaint at the police station, which led the police to take swift action.

A  video that went viral on social media raised questions about food safety, in which a fruit seller was seen applying poison into fruits. After the video widely circulated, police took  prompt action and sealed the vendor’s shop.

According to reports citing officials from the Malad Police Station, the case surfaced after a complaint was filed by local resident. The complaint alleged that two fruit sellers in the market were using rat poison on their produce, posing a serious threat to public health. After the complaint, the police registered the case and detained both accused for questioning.

Reportedly, during the investigation, the accused told police that they used rat poison to prevent rodents from damaging fruits.
