Mumbai metro pillar slab collapses in Mumbai’s Mulund, auto and car crushed, 1 killed, 4 injured

A major accident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Mulund West, Mumbai, during metro construction work. A large concrete slab from an under-construction metro pillar suddenly collapsed near the Johnson & Johnson company on LBS Road. The debris fell onto a passing auto-rickshaw and a car, triggering panic in the area.
According to initial information, the incident took place around 12.20 pm. Three to four passengers travelling in the rickshaw are feared to have been seriously injured. The slab was so heavy that the auto-rickshaw was completely crushed.
Soon after the incident, teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police, senior metro officials, ward staff and 108 ambulances rushed to the spot. Rescue operations were launched to pull out those trapped under the debris and shift them to hospital.
Police have cordoned off the area as a precaution and diverted traffic from LBS Road to alternate routes. An investigation has been initiated to determine whether contractor negligence or any other factor led to the accident.
