Commuters on Mumbai’s Central Railway network will have more air-conditioned travel options after 12 existing non-AC suburban services were converted into AC locals from June 29. With the latest expansion, the total number of AC local services has increased to 120, including 92 on the Main line and 28 on the Harbour line.
12 non-AC services converted to AC locals
The newly introduced AC services have replaced existing non-AC suburban trains, meaning the total number of weekday services on the Mumbai Division remains unchanged at 1,820.
According to Central Railway, the expansion was carried out in response to continued demand from passengers for more air-conditioned local train services.
Peak-hour trains among new additions
The upgraded services include three trains operating during peak hours — the 6.46 a.m. Titwala–CSMT local, 9.16 a.m. Ghatkopar–CSMT local and the 7.18 p.m. CSMT–Kalyan local.
The remaining nine AC services have been scheduled across the late morning, afternoon, evening and night, offering passengers more air-conditioned travel options throughout the day. These services will also operate on routes connecting Kurla, CSMT, Thane and Kalyan.
Sunday services to remain non-AC
Central Railway said the upgraded AC trains will run from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays and nominated public holidays, the same services will continue to operate with non-AC coaches.
The latest expansion follows the introduction of AC local services on the Harbour line on January 26, 2026, which was further expanded with 14 additional services from May 1.
Harbour line sees rise in ridership

According to Central Railway data, AC local services on the Harbour line recorded a 64.97% increase in ridership after the May expansion, with passenger numbers rising from 2.34 lakh to 3.86 lakh.
Revenue from these services also increased by 66.43% during the same period, growing from ₹1.18 crore to ₹1.96 crore.
