Man Detained With Forged PMO ID, Armed Escort Ahead Of PM Modi’s Mumbai Event

Mumbai Police detained a man attempting to enter the Jio World Centre using a forged Prime Minister’s Office identity card on Monday, just hours ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled arrival in the city.

The suspect, identified as drone technology businessman Rohan Parekh, was stopped by security personnel at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) venue after his credentials raised suspicion upon inspection. An accompanying individual, who claimed to be Parekh’s bodyguard, was also taken into custody after officers recovered a firearm from his possession.

BKC Police Station registered a case against both men before transferring the investigation to the Crime Branch. Detectives are currently interrogating the pair to establish their motive for attempting to access the restricted perimeter with a fake official pass and an armed escort.

Security Probes Intent Behind Breach

Crime Branch officials are examining whether the attempt was directly targeted at the Prime Minister’s itinerary or represented an unauthorized commercial intrusion. Forensic teams are assessing the forged identity document to trace its origin and determine if broader networks were involved in manufacturing high-level government passes.

The venue is set to host the seventh edition of the Global Fintech Fest, running through 11 September. The gathering brings together international policymakers, financial institution leaders, regulators, and technology investors to deliberate on agentic artificial intelligence, tokenisation, and quantum technology application within the banking sector. Prime Minister Modi is slated to deliver the keynote address and formally open the conference.

Security around the Bandra Kurla Complex has been intensified, with multi-layered checkpoints and heightened surveillance protocols established across all entry routes leading to the centre.
