Maharashtra Woman Arrested After Allegedly Drugging Husband, Beating Him And Trying To Bury Him

A 38-year-old woman in Maharashtra’s Baramati has been arrested for allegedly drugging her husband, attacking him with a bat and attempting to bury him inside a structure built at their home.

The incident came to light when labourers working on the structure became suspicious and alerted police, who rescued the man before it could be sealed.

Husband allegedly drugged for two days

According to the complaint, Sharmila Praveen Jagtap allegedly mixed sleeping pills into her husband Praveen Jagtap’s juice on July 30. He remained unconscious for around two days.

On August 1, when Praveen was reportedly semi-conscious, his wife allegedly attacked him repeatedly with a bat.

She then allegedly placed him inside a pit on the balcony, which had been prepared using bricks and cement by labourers. She reportedly tried to cover the structure with a large stone slab.

The labourers became suspicious after noticing movement and contacted police, who rescued Praveen.

Mother also allegedly given sleeping pills

Praveen’s father later filed a police complaint, following which Sharmila was arrested.

Speaking about the incident, Praveen alleged that his wife had also given sleeping pills to his mother, who was present at the house.

His mother regained consciousness while he was being attacked and contacted another son. When his brother arrived and opened the door, he reportedly found Praveen inside the pit and took him to hospital.

Praveen said he had regained partial consciousness while his wife was hitting him with the bat and repeatedly asked her to stop.

Husband raises black magic suspicion

Praveen also alleged that there could be a black magic or witchcraft angle to the incident. He pointed to entries reading “no result” that his wife had allegedly written on the calendar on July 13 and 14, both days of the new moon.

He also questioned how his wife obtained strong sleeping pills without a prescription and demanded legal action against the medical store that allegedly supplied them.

Praveen said the shop’s licence should be cancelled and called the matter one of his complaints.

Children taken by wife’s parents

Praveen further told police that his wife’s parents had taken their two children, a son and a daughter, with them.

He expressed concern about their safety and urged the administration to hand their custody over to him immediately, saying he feared their lives could be at risk.

The allegations, including the claimed black magic angle and the circumstances surrounding the medication, remain part of the ongoing investigation.
