Maharashtra intern drowns in Chennai beach tragedy

A tragic incident has been reported from Chennai, where a young woman from Maharashtra drowned after being swept away by strong sea waves while visiting a beach with friends.

According to local media reports, a group of young men and women from Maharashtra, who are currently interning with Cognizant in Chennai, had gone to a beach on Saturday as it was a holiday.

The group had reportedly visited a beach area under the jurisdiction of the Kanthattur Police Station along the Puducherry Road.

Preliminary information suggests that while the group was taking selfies near the shore, sudden and powerful waves surged, pulling three members into the sea.

Mayuri Chaudhary, a resident of Varathi village in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district, drowned in the incident. A youth identified as Jay Patil from Jalgaon remains missing, while another youth was successfully rescued.
