Maharashtra Couple Allegedly Sells Month-Old Baby for ₹1.2 Lakh, Spends Money on Phones and Gold Chain

A month-old baby was allegedly sold for ₹1.20 lakh by his parents in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, with police arresting seven people over suspected trafficking.

Baby Allegedly Sold Four Times

The incident came to light in the Mukundwadi area, where the parents allegedly handed their infant to a middlewoman in exchange for money.

Police reportedly said the couple used the ₹1.20 lakh to buy two expensive mobile phones and a gold chain. The items are being seized as part of the investigation.

Police also said the baby was subsequently passed through several people and allegedly sold four times before reaching Hyderabad.

In the first transaction, the parents allegedly sold the baby to Seema Reshwal for ₹1.20 lakh. Reshwal allegedly later sold the infant to Sangeeta Awhad, a resident of Padegaon, for ₹2.70 lakh.

Awhad then took the baby to Nanded, where she allegedly handed him over to Suresh Guntuka, whom police described as a bogus doctor. Guntuka allegedly bought the child for ₹3.50 lakh.

In the fourth transaction, Guntuka allegedly handed the baby to his relative Uma Khatkam, who lives in Hyderabad, for the same amount of ₹3.50 lakh.

Seven Arrested

Police have reportedly arrested seven people, including the baby’s parents and others allegedly involved in the successive transactions.

Investigators are questioning the accused to establish the complete chain of alleged transactions and determine the role of each person.

Police are also examining whether those arrested may be linked to other cases involving the illegal sale or transfer of infants.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to trace and safely recover the baby from Hyderabad.
