‘In My Next Life, I Will Become A Doctor’: 19-Year-Old NEET Aspirant Dies By Suicide In Maharashtra

A 19-year-old NEET aspirant, identified as Suraj Subhash Shinde, died by suicide at his home in Khandala village of Vaijapur taluka in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, with police investigating whether disappointment over his NEET score played a role.

Student reportedly upset over NEET score

Suraj was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) from home. According to the preliminary police investigation, he had been distressed after scoring fewer marks than he had expected in the medical entrance examination.

Before his death, Suraj left a two-line note addressed to his parents.

“Sorry Aai and Appa, in my next life I will become a doctor for you. Take care of yourselves and stay happy,” the note read.

Family found him after returning home

At the time of the incident, Suraj’s family members had gone to attend a week-long religious programme in the village.

The family returned home at around 2 pm on Wednesday and tried calling Suraj, but his phone was switched off. His younger sister then went upstairs and found him hanging in a room.

After hearing her screams, family members rushed to the room and took him to Vaijapur Sub-District Hospital. Doctors examined him and declared him dead.

Police investigating circumstances

Suraj’s last rites were performed amid a sombre atmosphere. Vaijapur police have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further investigation.

Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the death, including whether disappointment over his NEET score contributed to the incident.
