Gelatin Stick Explosion In Locked Kolhapur House Sparks Probe, No Injuries Reported

A powerful explosion caused by gelatin sticks stored inside a locked house in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur has triggered a police investigation after the blast damaged the property and several neighbouring homes. No injuries were reported as the house had remained vacant for months.

The explosion took place in the Surve Nagar area on Tuesday night, sending shockwaves through the locality and leaving residents alarmed. Police are now investigating how the explosive material was stored inside the locked property and who was responsible for bringing it there.

Blast damages house and nearby properties

The force of the explosion caused extensive structural damage to the locked house, blowing apart one of its walls and scattering debris across the surrounding area. Windowpanes of several nearby homes were also shattered.

Residents, startled by the loud blast, immediately alerted the police, who rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area.

House had been locked for months

According to police, the house belonged to Shashikala Bodiskar, who died around a year ago. The property had remained locked ever since, and no one was inside at the time of the explosion, preventing any casualties despite the intensity of the blast.

Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Nilotpal said officers received information about the explosion at around 7.30 pm on Tuesday.

Police investigating source of gelatin sticks

Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into how the gelatin sticks ended up inside the vacant house.

Investigators are examining who had access to the property before it was locked, why the explosive material was stored there and whether it was intended for commercial use or any other purpose.

Officials said every possible angle is being investigated. At this stage, they have not reached any conclusion on whether the gelatin sticks were kept for legitimate purposes or if there was any larger conspiracy behind the incident.

The area remains under police watch as forensic and investigative teams continue to examine the blast site.
