Eight die in Pune after consuming suspected hooch

At least eight people reportedly died in and around Pune within 24 hours, prompting authorities to investigate whether the deaths were linked to the consumption of suspected spurious liquor.
The fatalities were reported from the Hadapsar area of Pune and the Phugewadi locality in Pimpri-Chinchwad. According to the news agency, police officials preliminary findings suggest that some of the deaths may be connected to the consumption of illicit liquor allegedly contaminated with methanol, though the exact cause will be determined after post-mortem reports are received.
Authorities have reportedly launched a detailed probe into the incident and have detained eight individuals in connection with the case. Investigators are examining the source and distribution of the suspected liquor.
Speaking to the news agency, local residents said several people from the Pandhare Mala area fell ill shortly after consuming alcohol. Family members of some of the deceased claimed the victims experienced vomiting and severe stomach pain soon after drinking and were later declared dead.
