Two flights Airbus A320 aircraft operated by Air India and IndiGo were involved in a ground incident at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on 3 February 2026, when their right wing tips came into contact during taxiing.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the incident occurred during ground movement when Air India flight AI2732, registered as VT-TYF, was taxiing from bay C1 towards M4 for departure. At the same time, an IndiGo A320, registered as VT-IFV, was taxiing after arrival and joining taxiway B1. During the manoeuvre, the right wing tips of both aircraft brushed against each other.

The aviation regulator said that following the incident, both aircraft were taken back to their respective bays for inspection, and DGCA officials from the Mumbai office reached the site to assess the situation.

Air India confirmed that its Mumbai–Coimbatore service was delayed after the aircraft sustained wingtip damage while waiting on the taxiway prior to take-off. The airline said the aircraft has been grounded as a precaution for technical checks, all passengers were safely disembarked, and alternate travel arrangements are being made.

IndiGo also acknowledged the incident, stating that its Hyderabad–Mumbai flight experienced wingtip contact with another aircraft while taxiing after landing. The airline confirmed that passengers were safe and the aircraft is undergoing maintenance inspection.
