HIGH ALERT: Machhu-2 Dam Reaches 100% Capacity; 4 Gates Opened to Release Over 14,000 Cusecs

The Morbi district administration has placed 32 villages and localities, including Morbi city, on high alert after the Machhu-2 Dam reached 100% of its storage capacity following heavy rainfall in the catchment areas.

14,058 Cusecs Released From Dam

To regulate the rising water level, authorities opened four gates of the Machhu-2 Dam by six feet at 12 noon, releasing approximately 14,058 cusecs of water into the Machhu river. The reservoir is currently receiving an inflow of around 14,638 cusecs.

32 Areas Under Flood Alert

As a precautionary measure, the district administration has issued an extreme caution alert for residents of Morbi and Maliya (Miyana) talukas.
The alert covers Morbi city, Vajepar, Jodhpar, Lilapar, Bhadiyad, Timbdi, Dharampur, Ravapar, Amreli, Vanaliya, Gor Khijadia, Mansar, Nava Sadulka, Juna Sadulka, Gungan, Naranka, Bahadurgarh, Nava Nagdavas, Juna Nagdavas, Sokhada and Amarnagar, among other areas.
In Maliya (Miyana) taluka, the advisory has been issued for Veeravadarka, Derala, Navagam, Meghpar, Haripar, Mahendragarh, Fatepar, Songarh, Maliya (Miyana) and Rasangpar.

Administration Issues Safety Advisory

Residents living along the Machhu riverbank have been advised to stay away from the riverbed and low-lying areas, remain alert and strictly follow instructions issued by the district administration. Officials have urged people not to venture near the river and to cooperate with authorities until the situation normalises.
