President Droupadi Murmu, on the advice of the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Ravneet Singh from the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect.

According to a press communique issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, the resignation has been accepted under Article 75(2) of the Constitution of India.

No official reason has been given for the resignation. However, reports suggest Ravneet Singh is likely to focus on upcoming political activities and elections in Punjab.

Ravneet Singh had been one of the BJP's prominent voices in Punjab after joining the party in March 2024 following his exit from the Congress. As Union Minister of State for Railways, he frequently targeted the Congress leadership over its functioning in the state.

Earlier this month, while reacting to the Congress' organisational revamp in Punjab, Ravneet Singh had alleged that the party was distributing "lollipops" by handing out posts instead of strengthening its grassroots organisation.

He had also asserted that the BJP was fully prepared to contest the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections independently and claimed the party's cadre was energised ahead of the electoral battle.
