Uttarakhand Woman Renu Dhariyal Sets Guinness World Record With Nearly 9-Foot-Long Hair

Renu Dhariyal has turned years of patience and an unwavering hair-care routine into a Guinness World Record, earning recognition for having the longest hair on a living woman. Her hair measures an extraordinary 271.50 cm (8 feet 10 inches), just short of the height of the tallest person ever recorded.

Renu Dhariyal Sets New Guinness World Record

Dhariyal's record-breaking hair was officially measured and verified in Haldwani in April, according to Guinness World Records. At 271.50 cm, her hair surpassed the previous record held by Ukrainian record-holder Aliia Nasyrova, whose hair measured 257.33 cm (8 feet 5.3 inches).

The difference is more than 14 cm, putting Dhariyal firmly at the top of the Guinness list for the category.

Her hair is also only marginally shorter than Robert Wadlow, the tallest person ever recorded, who measured 272 cm.

She Has Not Cut Her Hair Since 2015

Dhariyal has been growing her hair continuously since 2015, without cutting it during that period.

The journey has required more than simply allowing her hair to grow. According to Guinness World Records, maintaining locks of such extraordinary length involves hours of washing, drying and carefully detangling the hair.

Photographs released by Guinness show Dhariyal sitting on the floor surrounded by her exceptionally long locks, while other images show the hair extending over the edge of a bed.

When she needs to manage the length, she reportedly gathers it into a long, elaborate braid.

Long Hair Linked To Indian Culture

Dhariyal told Guinness World Records that her decision to maintain extremely long hair was partly influenced by Indian cultural traditions, where long hair has historically been associated with beauty and tradition.

Rather than relying heavily on commercial chemical products, she said she prefers natural methods of hair care.

She has also prepared homemade hair oils and shampoos and has shared her hair-care practices with followers online.

From Personal Routine To Global Record

Dhariyal's unusual appearance had already attracted attention both online and in public. The sheer length of her hair often drew people's curiosity whenever she stepped outside or appeared on social media.

She has also built a presence as a content creator and YouTuber, sharing beauty and hair-care advice with women.

For her, the Guinness achievement represents more than an unusual physical record. Dhariyal said she hopes it brings greater attention to India and her local community while encouraging people to remain consistent and connected with natural beauty and cultural traditions.

Previous Record Holder Surpassed

Before Dhariyal's achievement, Aliia Nasyrova of Ukraine held the Guinness record for the longest hair on a living woman, with a measurement of 257.33 cm.

Dhariyal's 271.50 cm measurement has now pushed the record higher, marking a new milestone for the category.

Her achievement is the result of more than a decade of maintaining her hair and turning a deeply personal routine into a record recognised around the world.
