A special court in Mumbai has allowed the unfreezing of bank accounts belonging to actor Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty, and their mother Sandhya Chakraborty. These accounts were reportedly frozen in 2020 during the investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

As per reports, the court said that the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) did not follow proper legal rules under the NDPS Act. According to the law, frozen accounts must be approved within 30 days, however, the process was not followed. Rhea and her family had requested access to more bank accounts in ICICI, Axis, and Kotak banks. Their lawyer reportedly pointed out that the freezing was not legal because the required process was not followed.

The NCB had opposed this request and reportedly said that Rhea was linked to a drug network based on statements during the investigation. However, the judge ruled that legal procedure was not followed, so accounts should be released.

As per reports, some accounts were already unfrozen in 2021, but this order gives access to the remaining ones. Rhea Chakraborty is preparing to return to acting with a new series by filmmaker Hansal Mehta. She said she was unsure at first but later agreed to do the project.

Rhea also spoke about the support she received from her close friends during difficult times.
