Jonathan Andic, the son of fashion empire Mango’s founder Isak Andic, was reportedly arrested by Catalan police on Tuesday in connection with his father’s death. A court in Martorell near Barcelona granted him bail of €1 million (₹11.23 crore), ordered him to surrender his passport, and asked him to report to court every week, as per reports.

Reports in Spanish media claimed that Jonathan and his father had disagreements over business decisions in previous years. Jonathan  served as Mango’s CEO before being replaced in 2020 when Isak returned to the company.

The case was being investigated as a possible homicide after authorities reopened the inquiry earlier this year. Investigators reportedly found inconsistencies in Jonathan’s earlier statements about the incident. Jonathan was questioned by police after being taken from his home on Tuesday morning.

Isak reportedly died in December 2024 after falling into a 320 foot ravine while hiking in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona. He was 71 years old. Jonathan was present during the incident and was reported to be the only witness.

Police treated the death as an accident at first and closed the investigation in early 2025 after finding no evidence of criminal activity. However, the case was reopened later by Catalan authorities, as per reports.

Mango was founded in Barcelona in 1984 by Isak and his brother Nahman Andic. The fashion company reportedly grew into a global brand with nearly 3,000 stores in around 120 countries. According to Forbes, Isak Andic’s net worth was estimated at $4.5 billion at the time of his death.

After his father’s death, Jonathan became vice-chairman of Mango’s board.
