Indian couture shines at Oscars 2026 as global stars embrace heritage craftsmanship

The 98th Academy Awards red carpet turned into a powerful showcase of Indian fashion, as international celebrities stepped out in creations by leading Indian designers.
From the sculptural brilliance of Gaurav Gupta to the intricate hand-embroidery of Rahul Mishra and the timeless, heirloom-inspired jewellery by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Indian craftsmanship took centre stage.
Blending avant-garde silhouettes with delicate detailing, these ensembles reflected hundreds of hours of meticulous artistry. The Oscars 2026 red carpet wasn’t just about Hollywood glamour it became a global platform celebrating the richness, precision, and heritage of Indian couture and jewellery.
The voluminous piece worn by South Korean singer-rapper Rei Ami made a striking statement in a black-and-gold embellished mini dress which highlighted the craftsmanship of Rahul Mishra, taking hundreds of hours to complete.
Sinners actor Li Jun Li turned heads in a bold red ensemble by Gaurav Gupta. The look featured a sculpted satin corset with his signature fluid, architectural draping, paired with a daring high-slit skirt and intricate lace-up detailing.
Ginnifer Goodwin was seen in a sheer black organza gown paired with an opulent choker by Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Crafted in 18K gold, the statement piece featured a striking central emerald of over 10 carats, accented by mint tourmalines and brilliant-cut diamonds.
Rachel McAdams made a rare red carpet appearance to honour screen legends Diane Keaton and Catherine O’Hara, a celebrity wore an elegant gown by Alberta Ferretti, complemented by Sabyasachi drop earrings. Set in 18K gold with peach-toned morganites, the jewellery added a soft, regal glow.
Fashion journalist Zanna Roberts Rass stood out in a bold Swadesh x Abu Jani–Sandeep Khosla creation. The ikat-inspired beaded crop top, designed with sculpted power shoulders, was intricately hand-embroidered using thousands of bugle beads, stones, and crystals reportedly requiring over 2,000 man-hours on a silk brocade base.
Celebrity stylist Law Roach and singer Brandi Carlile both embraced handcrafted brooches by Swadesh. Carlile’s ‘Petal Prism’ piece, inspired by sunflowers and crafted by Telangana goldsmiths, featured a luminous oval-cut emerald at its centre, showcasing exceptional artisanal skill.
