A French bakery in Delhi has introduced a new fusion dessert called ‘Cromun,’ blending elements of French and Indian cuisine.

The dessert is essentially a croissant stuffed with gulab jamun-inspired filling, combining the flaky texture of a croissant with the rich sweetness of the traditional Indian sweet.

The bakery shared the creation on Instagram, humorously noting, “Nobody asked for it, still we did it.” It described the Cromun as a tribute to the India-France Year of Innovation 2026.

According to the bakery, the dessert is “a unique, innovative fusion product inspired by two classics from India and France gulab jamun and croissant.” It features a carefully balanced cream inspired by gulab jamun flavors, toned down in sweetness to create a refined and modern pastry.

The Cromun has been crafted by L’Opéra’s French Executive Chef, Kevin Duthel.

The dessert has sparked mixed reactions online. While some users expressed curiosity and willingness to try it, others criticized the unusual combination.

One user commented, “Why experiment? But I will try that.” Another wrote, “I am curious about this combination; such ideas need proper testing.”

Supporters praised the creativity, with one saying, “It tastes amazing, nothing wrong with innovation.”

However, critics were quick to respond, with comments like, “Just because you can do it doesn’t mean you should.”

Some also raised health concerns, pointing out its high calorie content, with one user remarking, “500+ calories in one go did we need this innovation?”
