The ongoing trade standoff between the United States and China, President Donald Trump announced that the US will impose a 100% tariff on all Chinese goods starting November 1, or earlier if China takes additional restrictive actions.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump accused China of taking an “extraordinarily aggressive position on trade” after Beijing reportedly sent what he described as an extremely hostile letter to the international community, outlining plans to impose large-scale export controls on nearly all products manufactured in China.

According to the US president, China’s planned export restrictions would apply “to virtually every product they make, and some not even made by them,” impacting all countries without exception. Trump called the move “absolutely unheard of in international trade” and “a moral disgrace in dealing with other nations.”

Citing China’s actions, Trump declared that the US will respond by levying an additional 100% tariff on top of the existing duties currently imposed on Chinese imports. He also announced forthcoming export controls on all critical software, to be enforced beginning November 1.

“It is impossible to believe that China would have taken such an action, but they have, and the rest is history,” wrote Trump.
