US Supreme Court to consider Trump petition in E Jean Carroll case

The Supreme Court of the United States is scheduled to meet later this week to consider a petition filed by President Donald Trump seeking a review of the verdict in a sexual abuse and defamation case brought by writer E Jean Carroll, as per reports.
In May 2023, a Manhattan jury reportedly found Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll, awarding her $5 million in damages. In a separate civil trial in January 2024, a second jury ordered Trump to pay an additional $83.3 million for defamatory statements made after the initial verdict, as per reports.
Trump has allegedly denied any wrongdoing and, in November 2025, petitioned the Supreme Court to review the case after lower courts rejected his attempts to challenge the rulings.
As per reports, Carroll, a long-time advice columnist, accused Trump of assaulting her in the dressing room of a Manhattan department store in 1996 and later defaming her when he publicly denied the allegations decades afterwards. The 2023 jury concluded that Trump was legally responsible for abuse and for defamatory remarks made in October 2022.
An appellate court upheld the verdict in December 2024, prompting Trump’s legal team to seek intervention from the nation’s highest court the following month.
In his petition, Trump argued that the trial judge had improperly allowed certain evidence to be presented, which he claimed prejudiced the jury against him.
At a conference scheduled for March 6, the Supreme Court will decide whether to grant a review of the case. The meeting had previously been listed for February 20 and 27 but was rescheduled on both occasions.
