US Senate votes 50 46 to terminate Trump’s tariffs on Canada

The US Senate on Wednesday evening voted to repeal President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs on Canada, as per an American newspaper.

The US Senate voted 50–46 to revoke tariffs on Canadian imports, delivering a direct rebuke to Trump’s trade policy.

Four Republican senators, including Susan Collins of Maine, Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, joined Democrats in voting to repeal former President Trump’s tariffs on Canadian imports.

The quartet had previously backed the same measure in April, when the Senate approved it on April 2.

Democrat Senator Tim Kaine, who sponsored the resolution, reintroduced it this week after the Republican-controlled House failed to take it up.

Trump’s trade dispute with Canada intensified earlier this week after he raised tariffs by another 10% in response to an ad featuring former President Reagan.
