The United States government has announced the release of a new batch of previously classified files related to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), commonly referred to as UFOs, under a fresh transparency initiative launched by the Trump administration.
The move comes as part of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE), an interagency effort involving the White House, Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), Department of Energy, NASA, FBI and multiple US intelligence agencies.
According to the announcement, the newly declassified files, including videos, photographs, and original government documents linked to unexplained aerial sightings, will be hosted on a dedicated portal, WAR.GOV/UFO. Authorities stated that additional material will continue to be released on a rolling basis.
The Department of War said the initiative follows directions from US President Donald Trump to identify and declassify government records connected to UAPs in the interest of “maximum transparency”.
The statement claimed this marks “the first time the American public has been given direct access to such a broad collection of declassified UAP-related records from across multiple federal agencies without requiring security clearance”.
However, authorities clarified that while the files have undergone security review, many of the materials have not yet been fully analysed to determine the nature of the anomalies documented in them.
US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the release was aimed at addressing years of public speculation surrounding classified UAP files, while Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said further coordinated declassification efforts are expected in the future.
The FBI and NASA also confirmed participation in the initiative, with NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman stating that scientific analysis and transparency would remain central to understanding unexplained aerial phenomena.
The announcement has reignited global debate surrounding UFO sightings, government secrecy and the possibility of unexplained aerial activity, though US authorities have not claimed the released files confirm extraterrestrial life.
