The leadership change comes amid heightened maritime tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, where US naval forces continue to enforce a blockade on Iranian ports during an ongoing ceasefire.

According to reports, American forces have redirected multiple vessels and intercepted ships attempting to breach restrictions.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has reportedly indicated a possible diplomatic breakthrough with Iran, even as regional tensions remain fragile.

As per reports, Trump suggested progress could be made following the extension of a two-week ceasefire, reportedly aimed at allowing Tehran time to formulate a unified proposal.

Reports citing sources said diplomatic outreach involving Pakistan was also under way, signalling tentative efforts to ease tensions despite recent disruptions to talks over security concerns.
