US mulls sending 10k troops to Middle East amid Iran tensions: report

The United States is considering deploying an additional 10,000 ground troops to West Asia despite ongoing talks with Iran, as per reports.
The Jerusalem Post, citing a report by The Wall Street Journal, said the proposed deployment could include infantry units and armoured vehicles, in addition to the 82nd Airborne Division, which is already stationed in the region.
The report said it remains unclear where the additional forces would be deployed.
Deputy White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly reportedly said any announcement on troop movements would be made by the Department of War, adding that President Donald Trump retains all military options.
A spokesperson for US Central Command declined to comment on the report.
The development comes as hostilities involving the US, Israel and Iran enter their fourth week. Trump had earlier indicated a possible pause in strikes after Tehran reportedly sought a seven-day halt to attacks on its energy infrastructure, though the US extended the window to 10 days until April 6.
Despite this, strikes by US and Israeli forces have continued.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reportedly said it had launched another phase of its military campaign, targeting US and Israeli installations with missiles and drones.
Amid escalating tensions, Iran has also raised concerns at the United Nations over media reports alleging plans by the US and Israel to target senior Iranian officials.
Iran’s envoy to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, conveyed the country’s concerns in a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the Security Council, as per reports.
