US Coast Guard has released a 20-second audio recording that is believed to capture the moment Titan submersible imploded in June 2023, tragically killing all five people on board.

The submersible, operated by OceanGate, was on a deep-sea dive to explore the Titanic wreck when it lost contact and went missing. On February 7, 2025, officials shared the recording as part of their ongoing investigation. The audio, captured about 900 miles from the site by a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration device, features a disturbing whooshing sound. Experts believe this is the “acoustic signature” of the implosion that occurred on June 18, 2023.

During the initial search, reports of underwater noises raised hopes that the passengers might be alive, trapped beneath the ocean. However, the Coast Guard later confirmed these sounds were unrelated. The sub had already imploded during its descent.

Four days after the disappearance, OceanGate confirmed the loss of all five passengers, describing them as passionate explorers dedicated to ocean discovery and conservation.

The passengers included:

Stockton Rush: CEO of OceanGate Expeditions and pilot of the Titan.

Paul-Henri Nargeolet: A renowned French diver and expert on the Titanic wreck.

Hamish Harding: A British billionaire and chairman of Action Aviation, who was part of the mission.

Shahzada Dawood and Sulaiman Dawood: A UK-based Pakistani businessman from Engro Corporation and his 19-year-old son, who joined the expedition together.
