US billionaire plans Titanic dive to prove journey is safe after OceanGate tragedy

An Ohio-based billionaire is planning to take a submersible vehicle to the Titanic wreckage site, reported the media, 11-months after the tragic implosion of OceanGate’s Titan submersible that claimed five lives.

Larry Connor, an Ohio real estate investor plans to dive 12,400 feet in a submersible along with the co-founder of Triton Submarines, Patrick Lahey, according to an interview given by Connor to a US-based media.

The two-men expedition, according to Connor, will prove that ocean explorations can be executed safely, reported the media.

The duo plans to take on the adventure in Triton 4000/2 Explorer wor $20 million, designed by Connor.

Titan tragedy

On June 18, 2023, the Titan submersible of OceanGate -  a submersible company that offered ocean exploration, lost contact within 90 minutes on its way to the Titanic wreckage - British ocean liner that sank in 1912.

The CEO of OceanGate, which owned the sub, Stockton Rush, 61; British explorer Hamish Harding, 58; French diver Paul-Henry Nargeolet, 77; Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his son, Suleman Dawood, 19 were on board.

The human remains of them were recovered from the sea on June 26.
